Based on limited published evidence, CATSPERG (catsper channel auxiliary subunit gamma) is an auxiliary component of the CatSper complex essential for sperm cell hyperactivation and motility. The protein localizes to the sperm flagellum and is involved in flagellated sperm motility and spermatogenesis. CATSPERG has been identified as a hub gene associated with spermatogenesis defects in nonobstructive azoospermia (NOA), a severe form of male infertility 1. Additionally, genetic variants in CATSPERG have been associated with D-dimer levels in African populations with HIV infection, suggesting potential broader roles in inflammatory responses 2.
