Based on limited published evidence, IAH1 is a probable lipase with hydrolase activity acting on ester bonds, capable of identical protein binding. The gene encodes an isoamyl acetate hydrolyzing esterase enzyme. IAH1 has been identified as part of a novel IAH1-ALK fusion gene in a case of small-cell lung cancer 1, though the functional significance of this fusion in tumorigenesis remains unclear.
