protein bindinghair cyclecytosolkeratin filament
Based on limited published evidence, KRTAP4-11 (keratin-associated protein 4-11) functions in hair structure by embedding hair keratin intermediate filaments within an interfilamentary matrix. Through extensive disulfide bond cross-linking with cysteine-rich hair keratins, KRTAP4-11 contributes to forming rigid, resistant hair shafts [UniProt]. GO annotations indicate protein binding and cytosolic localization during the hair cycle. Recent studies identified KRTAP4-11 as a differentially expressed gene in bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells under teriparatide treatment 1 and as a potential biomarker for methotrexate response prediction in rheumatoid arthritis patients 2, suggesting roles beyond canonical hair biology requiring further investigation.
