Based on limited published evidence, LITAFD is a zinc ion-binding protein localized to cytoplasmic sides of late endosomal and lysosomal membranes, with nuclear localization also reported. GO annotations indicate roles in regulating cytokine production. A genome-wide association study identified LITAFD as a candidate gene associated with vitiligo-like depigmentation in grey horses, suggesting involvement in both innate immune response and tumor suppression pathways 1. However, functional characterization in human cells remains limited.
