Functionally, NUDT22 promotes pyrimidine salvage in cancer cells by maintaining UMP supply, supporting DNA replication and preventing replication stress 2. NUDT22 expression is elevated in cancer tissues and p53-regulated upon metabolic stress or DNA damage, with high expression correlating with poor survival outcomes.
