Mechanistically, RBP5 functions as part of retinoid acid metabolism networks. In keloids, RBP5 inhibition by retinoic acid promotes differentiation of pro-inflammatory fibroblasts to mesenchymal fibroblasts, reducing collagen secretion 2.
