Based on limited published evidence, SPATA32 is a spermatogenesis-associated protein localized to the perinuclear cytoplasm with actin-binding capacity. GO annotations indicate roles in protein binding and spermatogenesis. A related acrosomal protein (VAD1.2/AEP2) shares functional characteristics and interacts with structural proteins including beta-actin and myosin heavy chain, suggesting involvement in acrosome formation during spermiogenesis 1. Expression is stage-specific and diminished in hypospermatogenesis and maturation arrest.
