DENND11 is a probable guanine nucleotide exchange factor (GEF) containing a DENN domain, likely functioning in the cytoplasm to promote GDP-to-GTP exchange on small GTPases. Based on limited published evidence, DENND11 (also designated LCHN) is induced in the hippocampus following transient cerebral ischemia 1. Overexpression of DENND11 promotes neuritogenesis, generating neurons with longer and more branched axons and dendrites 1, suggesting a role in neuronal recovery and structural reorganization following ischemic injury.
