Based on limited published evidence, FAM25A function remains largely uncharacterized beyond protein binding capacity. However, FAM25A has emerged as a salivary extracellular RNA (exRNA) biomarker for gingivitis detection. As part of a four-biomarker panel (SPRR1A, lnc-TET3-2:1, FAM25A, CRCT1), it demonstrates 71% sensitivity and 100% specificity for gingivitis diagnosis 1. FAM25A expression changes correlate with gingivitis disease regression, suggesting potential clinical utility in periodontal disease monitoring 12. Further investigation is needed to elucidate its molecular function and validate its diagnostic applications.
