LCE1E (late cornified envelope 1E) encodes a precursor protein of the cornified envelope in the stratum corneum, the outermost layer of the epidermis. The protein functions through protein binding interactions, including identical protein binding. Based on limited published evidence, LCE1E expression is downregulated by interleukin-17A during disrupted epidermal differentiation in psoriasis models, suggesting its role in normal keratinization and cornified envelope formation 1.
