Based on limited published evidence, LCE2C encodes a precursor of the cornified envelope in the stratum corneum, functioning through protein binding interactions. LCE2C was identified as a potential head and neck squamous cell carcinoma biomarker with altered expression linked to decreased patient survival 1, and as a key cross-talk gene between periodontitis and hypothyroidism with high diagnostic accuracy 2.
