Based on limited published evidence, LGALS7B (galectin 7B) encodes a β-galactoside-binding lectin with immunomodulatory functions. It is upregulated by cis-urocanic acid and UVB irradiation in keratinocytes 1. Galectin-7 suppresses T lymphocyte function by promoting apoptosis and inhibiting IL-2 and IFN-γ expression 1. In head and neck squamous cell carcinoma, LGALS7B-expressing malignant cells are associated with unfavorable prognostic outcomes 2. The protein may contribute to immune suppression in both cutaneous and neoplastic contexts.
