Based on limited published evidence, PGCKA1 acts as a tumor suppressor. It suppresses cell proliferation when overexpressed 1 and functions in the PDCD10-GCKIII kinase module. In colorectal cancer, PGCKA1 exerts tumor suppressive activity by targeting the KEAP1/USP17/ELK1/CDK6 axis to inhibit cell proliferation 2. The gene is located on chromosome 4, which shows recurrent deletion in basal breast cancer, suggesting loss of PGCKA1 contributes to enhanced tumor proliferation 1.
