Based on limited published evidence, SLC35G4 encodes a choline transmembrane transporter with demonstrated organic cation transport activity. Functional characterization shows SLC35G4 exhibits choline transporter activity with a KM value of approximately 12-50 µM, aligning with physiological plasma choline concentrations 1. The transporter is inhibited by hemicholinium-3, decynium-22, and verapamil, suggesting involvement in cholinergic neurotransmission regulation 1. SLC35G4 also transports additional organic cations beyond choline 2, indicating polyspecific substrate recognition. Its biological role in acetylcholine biosynthesis and other choline-dependent processes remains to be fully characterized.
