Based on limited published evidence, SSX7 is an X-linked gene that may function as a transcriptional modulator through protein-binding interactions in the nucleus. SSX7 belongs to the SSX gene family, characterized as cancer-testis antigens 1. Among normal tissues, SSX7 mRNA expression is restricted to testis. In tumor cells, SSX7 was detected in only 1 of 9 melanoma cell lines tested. Unlike some SSX family members, SSX7 expression is not induced by epigenetic modifiers, suggesting alternative regulatory mechanisms 1.
