Based on limited published evidence, TTLL2 is a probable tubulin polyglutamylase that generates glutamate side chains on the C-terminal tail of target proteins, likely functioning in the initiation rather than elongation step of polyglutamylation. It binds tubulin and participates in microtubule cytoskeleton organization at ciliary basal bodies. TTLL2 may require complex formation with other proteins for enzymatic activity 1. A genetic association study identified TTLL2 in the 6q27 region as a candidate gene associated with pulmonary function in northeast Asian populations 2.
