Based on limited published evidence, VN1R4 is a putative pheromone receptor localized to the plasma membrane with pheromone binding capability according to UniProt and GO annotations. However, no functional studies directly characterize VN1R4's role in pheromone detection. VN1R4 has been identified as a differentially expressed gene in radiation-induced thyroid carcinoma 1 and shows genomic aberrations in glioma samples 2, but these represent indirect associations in cancer-related gene expression profiling rather than direct functional characterization.
