protein bindingmRNA splicing, via spliceosomenucleusnuclear speck
Based on limited published evidence, CWC25 is a spliceosome-associated protein involved in pre-mRNA splicing. It functions as a component of the U2-type catalytic step I spliceosome and localizes to nuclear specks and the nucleoplasm. CWC25 (human homolog of yeast Cwc25) closely interacts with the helicase Prp16 and bridges connections between Prp16 and active-site RNA elements, playing a role in ribonucleoprotein remodeling during the C-to-C* spliceosomal transition 1. Serum levels of CWC25 were found to be increased in HIV-positive individuals compared to controls 2.
