Based on limited published evidence, MS4A13 is a membrane-spanning 4-domain family protein with predicted roles in cell surface receptor signaling. UniProt annotations suggest involvement in signal transduction as a component of multimeric receptor complexes. MS4A13 localizes to the plasma membrane and mediates protein binding interactions. Recent genome-wide CRISPR screening identified MS4A13 knockout as enhancing nonviral genome editing efficiency up to five-fold in patient-derived retinal pigment epithelium cells 1, suggesting a role in cellular uptake or trafficking processes. However, specific biological functions remain largely uncharacterized compared to other MS4A family members 2.
