OR1D5 is an olfactory receptor, a G protein-coupled receptor localized to the plasma membrane involved in sensory perception of smell. Based on limited published evidence, OR1D5 belongs to the OR1D subfamily of human olfactory receptors, which are highly conserved proteins sharing >80% DNA sequence identity 1. The receptor functions through G protein-coupled receptor signaling pathways to mediate odorant detection. However, the specific ligands for OR1D5 remain unknown, as ligands have been identified for only two human olfactory receptors to date.

OR1D5 is a full-length olfactory receptor in the OR1D subfamily with >80% DNA sequence identity to other subfamily members (OR1D2, OR1D4); specific ligands remain unidentified for most human olfactory receptors
