Based on limited published evidence, OR5B3 is an olfactory receptor that functions as a G protein-coupled receptor involved in odorant detection and sensory perception of smell. A genome-wide gene-based association study identified OR5B3 as significantly associated with distal pain sensitization in osteoarthritis patients 1, though the mechanistic connection between olfactory receptor function and pain sensitization remains unclear.
