Based on limited published evidence, OR52B4 encodes an odorant receptor localized to the plasma membrane with olfactory receptor activity. While the primary characterized function is odorant detection, genetic variants in OR52B4 have been associated with anti-VEGF therapy response in age-related macular degeneration. Specifically, rs4910623 and rs10158937 associate with poor treatment response 1, while rs323085 associates with good response 2. The mechanistic basis for these pharmacogenetic associations remains unclear.
