OR52J3 is an olfactory receptor localized to the plasma membrane that functions as an odorant receptor with transmembrane receptor activity. Based on limited published evidence, OR52J3 expression was significantly upregulated (>2-fold) following weight restoration in anorexia nervosa patients 1. A genome-wide association study identified a deleterious nonsynonymous coding variant (rs17350764) in OR52J3 associated with asthma susceptibility through transmembrane receptor activity pathways 2. However, the functional significance of these associations requires further investigation.
