KCNG2 (Kv6.2) is a regulatory alpha-subunit of voltage-gated potassium channels that modulates channel function through heteroassembly with KCNB1 (Kv2.1), shifting activation thresholds to more negative values and altering conductance-voltage relationships 1. As an electrically silent subunit, KCNG2 does not form functional channels independently but acts as an inhibitor of Kv channel currents when incorporated into heteromeric complexes 2. KCNG2 has emerging clinical significance in psychiatric and neurological disorders.
