OR2A2 is an olfactory receptor functioning as a G-protein coupled receptor involved in odorant detection and sensory perception of smell. Based on limited published evidence, OR2A2 has been identified as a gene with CpG sites near its locus that show altered DNA methylation patterns in response to prenatal phthalate exposure, particularly in female infants 1. The functional significance of these methylation changes and their impact on OR2A2 olfactory receptor activity remain unclear.
