Based on limited published evidence, VSIG10L2 is a V-set and immunoglobulin domain-containing protein localized to the plasma membrane with predicted roles in cell adhesion molecule binding and cell-cell adhesion. The protein contains immunoglobulin domains characteristic of cell adhesion molecules and is associated with cell-cell junction structures. Recent research identified VSIG10L2 as a potential biomarker of hair cell stress during chr11 ototoxicity, where it undergoes early downregulation in vestibular sensory epithelium in response to ototoxic compounds 1. This suggests a role in maintaining hair cell integrity and sensory epithelial homeostasis.
